Goodbye September and Hello October,
Each week we share just five simple items that help us expand our imaginations! This week we have witnessed the tremendous velocity and impact of both Hurricane Fiona and Hurricane Ian. We know that natural weather events of this magnitude can grossly impact families and communities for generations. The Hispanic Federation (HF) and Brigada Solidaria del Oeste are now accepting donations to support grassroots organizations on the ground in Puerto Rico. Additionally, Farm Share is a Florida nonprofit that sources leftover fruits and vegetables from local farms and distributes them to people across the state. They will be sending truckloads of food and supplies to Floridians and are asking people to donate here.
We are also witnessing the global response to the murder of Mahsa Amini, whose life was taken while she was in police detainment. This grotesque act of state-sanctioned violence has ignited global protests and increased the volume of the cries for the human dignity and safety of women in Iran. Learn more about this global call to action by listening here.
It's helpful to remember that humans aren't the only living organisms that create positive impacts in our world. Coral reefs are an important part of diverse ecosystems and have so much to teach us. This video of Peppa Pig struggling to sort out whistling is a hilarious reminder that we all have our moments when we just can’t make attempts to deal with life the ways others would hope! And when laughter isn't enough remember resources like Deepak Chopra's Go-To 3-Minute Meditation are available to help us stay grounded to act!
