Just Five Things- Celebrating Arab American Heritage Month


April is Arab American Heritage Month, and according to History.com: An estimated 3.7 million Americans have Arab roots. The multifaceted ethnic identities within are vast, expanding ancestries traced to 22 countries in the Middle East and North Africa, including Lebanon, Syria, Egypt, Palestine, Morocco, Iraq, Jordan, Yemen, Bahrain, Tunisia, Algeria, Sudan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, and others. Virtually touring the Arab American National Museum may be a great way to end this powerful month!


While affinity months like Autism Awareness and Arab American Heritage Month help us understand and appreciate social and cultural differences, it's important to realize there are still barriers we much overcome in society. Currently, we are witnessing active opposition to policies that have been created to ensure inclusion and equity for all. In a recent editorial Is this the end of affirmative action?, the Christian Science Monitor posed an important question: “What would the end of affirmative action mean for students and their families, particularly first-generation and low-income students?
